The AT-AR770S is the first Allied Telesis router to offer gigabit connectivity for both the LAN switch and WAN Ethernet ports. Eth0 and Eth1 are combo ports. This means that they can make use of an SFP instead of the standard copper RJ-45 connection. Both the SFP and RJ-45 physical ports are managed by the same interface IC, providing a single 'port' with two connectivity options. When using an SFP port on the AT-AR770S, the corresponding RJ-45 port is disabled. However, when the SFP transceiver is removed, the RJ-45 port becomes operational again.
